ABSTRACT This study was aimed at ascertaining whether pre-marital sex has affected the performance of the girl child in seven primary schools in Likuyani North zone, Lugari district Kenya. Data was collected using questionnaires, interviews from a sample of 240 adolescent girls from class six, seven and eight drawn from the eight schools, 30 girls from each school and 10 girls from each class level was used. The findings show that there is an increased prevalence to premarital sex and the number increased with the age of the girls. A structured questionnaire was used at individual level to enhance authentic of the findings for both the girl child and the principals of these schools. It was found that girls were more sexually active than boys. Even the rate of school drop out of girls is more than that of boys. Recommendations have been made for provision of relevant sexually and reproductive health information to adolescent and especially the girl child through joint efforts by parents counselors and educators beginning with around education policy in relation to sex.
