Abstract:

Corruption has become a commonly known problem around the globe and especially in the African continent. It is very high in the list of problems many African states have had to deal with over the years alongside poverty, terrorism, natural calamities, drought and famine. The impact, both direct and indirect, that this vice has had on states particularly in the developing world is severe ranging from increased poverty, undermining economic development and poor governance. People can no longer fully trust their leaders and government as a result of the high rate of grand corruption cases. This research has analyzed corruption from an international approach showing how the international community has in different ways contributed to increased corruption in African states using Kenya as an example. It looks at the examples of grand corruption cases in Kenya through the regimes of all three presidents showing how other countries have been involved and the effects this has had on Kenya as a country' Moreover it looks into how foreign aid has affected corruption in Kenya by showing how much influence donors have on borrowing states. International influence on Governance in relation to corruption has also been addressed as they are very closely related more so in democratic states like Kenya. The study has offered a variety of recommendations on the way forward in the venture of eradicating corruption in Kenya particularly in the line of external influence from other states, the West and international companies and organisations. It additionally shows how African states can learn from other countries from other parts of the world that have made great progress in dealing with corruption and apply these strategies in their struggle against corruption.
