Three research questions were raised to guide the study. The descriptive survey research design was used to carry out this study. The population of the study comprised 8,065 teachers distributed into 235 public secondary schools in AkwaIbom State. Multi-stage sampling technique was used to select 47 schools (20%) and 807 teachers (10%). A researcher developed instrument entitled “Cooperative Learning Instructional Strategy for Sex Education Questionnaire (CLISSEQ)” was used to gather the data. The reliability of the instrument was determined using Split Half method. A coefficient value of 0.60 was obtained and this was correlated with Spearman-Brown Prophesy formula which yielded a reliability of 0.75. Data were analyzed using frequency distribution and arithmetic mean at 2.50 rating. It was concluded that cooperative learning instructional strategy is very effective, not just in teaching but also in creating and enhancing students’ motivation, interest and achievement. It is recommended among others that, cooperative learning be adopted as an effective learning instructional strategy in teaching sex education so as to improve students’ social interaction and foster meta-cognition.
