Complexes of Nicotinic and Isonicotinic Acids Hydrazides and Their Acetone Hydrazones with Uranyl Nitrate and Acetate

ABSTRACT

Nicotinic acid hydrazide (NH) and isonicotinic acid hydrazide (INI-1) and their respective acetone hydrazones were prepared. They were each complexed with U022' using the nitrate and acetate salts respectively. Both the ligands and complexes were characterized by IR, UV-VIS, gravimetric analysis, melting point measurement, and the invitro susceptibility test. The results indicate that the ligands form complexes with the metal ion with varying coordination numbers. The IR data show that the hydrazides ligands coordinate to the metal through involvement of the nitrogen atom of the hydrazinic ( Ni-12) and the oxygen atom of the carbonyl group, while the hydrazones coordinate through the nitrogen atom of the azomethine group (C=N) and the oxygen atom of the carbonyl group. The IR data also reveal cheiating bidentate mode of coordination for the Nitrato ion ( NO.) while the coordination mode of the acetate complexes show chelating bidentate tor the hydrazides complexes and unidentate tor the hydrazones derivatised complexes. Electronic data show sharp bands around 432-352 assigned to charge transfer transition. Complex 4 showed a typical f-f transition band at 50 I nm. Conductivity measurement reveal that both I igands and complexes are nonelectrolytes and complex decompose at higher temperature, they showed no eftect on the growth of the microorganisms tested.
