FABRICATION AND PERFORMANCE ASSESSMENT OF ECOFRIENDLY BRAKE PAD USING PALM KERNEL SHELL

The fabrication and performance assessment of eco-friendly brake pad using palm kernel shell (PKS) wasproduced for engineering applications. The materials were ground and prepared for the production of brake pads. Some physical and mechanical properties were used to determine the capability of the produced pads in service conditions. The production and testing of motor vehicle brake pads using locally available raw material has been undertaken and accomplished. The disc brake friction lining ...

CHARACTERIZATION STUDIES OF EZENIFITE CLAY FOR ENGINEERING AND INDUSTRIAL APPLICATION

The characterization of Ezinifite clay from Anambra State, Nigeria, is presented in this research paper. The clay sample was mined and then processed to a standard form for analysis using recognized processes. SEM, XRF, and DTA/TGA were used to determine the mineralogy, chemical compositions, and thermal behavior of the clay. The clay samples' morphological, chemical, and mechanical properties were studied at temperatures ranging from 900oC to 1200oC, with a temperature interval of 100oC. The...

Investigating the Degradation of Epoxy Resin Nanocomposite Exposed to Different Environments

Epoxy nanocomposites have found their path through a wide range of applications in marine, aerospace, automotive and electronics packaging industries. However, epoxy nanocomposites have proved to be vulnerable when exposed to different corrosive environments and the role of nanocarbon in leading the extent of changes of their properties have been a subject of research in several studies. This study aims at investigating the influence environmental degradation has on the mechanical properties ...

Redesigning A Section of Hamu-Mukasa Road from Sir Albert Cook Road, Mengo Market Junction to Canon Apollo Road

ABSTRACT Hamu - Mukasa road, just like most other roads in Kampala city has a number of defects such as potholes, cracks, ravels aggregate polishing, and many more accompanied by lack of drainage which in turn facilitate the high traffic congestion and delays, especially at peak demand periods in addition to comfortability and unsafeness of the road users. Due to the strategic location and importance of the road as it provides access to institutions of learning such as Muteesa 1 Royal Univers...

Assessing Solid Waste Management in Bwaise to Design an Appropriate Handling System

ABSTRACT This report is from a study that looks at the nature, practices, challenges, and possible solutions for solid waste management systems in Bwaise, Kampala. The study used mainly questionnaires, interviews and observation. The findings suggest that in Bwaise, poor communities could generate income from waste disposal activities, if certain measures are put in place. Furthermore, in this area, 60% of the garbage is biodegrable, composed mainly of food related waste. Non-biodegradable w...

Design of an Underground Utility Duct Using Trenches Method (Case Study: Kimera Road) Trenchless Method

ABSTRACT Trenchless construction is the use of construction methods to install and repair underground utility systems with minimum open cut excavation. This includes the use of pipe jacking, micro tunneling, horizontal direction drilling, and guided boring systems. This was adopted to replace the aging utility infrastructure and install new facilities, while minimizing disruptions to traffic communities and business, reducing environmental impact and lowering the high costs of pavement remov...

Assessment of Different Point Water Sources in Kyakaliba and So Determine the Best Water Source for Kyaliba Rural Developing Community, Case Study in Hoima District

ABSTRACT Kyakaliba is a small village nestled in Buntanjwa Sub-county two miles away from Hoima Town in the Hoima district in Western Uganda. The population is 500 people (Source: Population Census; 2014) which is growing fast as a result of the Oil sprouting economic activity in the district. Currently, the available water sources are 3 Shallow wells, a spring, and Rainwater harvest but of the three wells, only one works with an issue of having too much Iron in the water, the spring runs dr...

Design and Implementation of an Intelligent Voice Controlled Wheel Chair

Abstract This project report describes the design and implementation of an Intelligent Voice Controlled Wheel Chair for disabled people. The model utilizes an Arduino Voice Recognition Module interfaced with a high-level 8-Mt AVR Microcontroller to control motorized movements using voice commands. The model provides both a convenient and non-technical solution to navigate in a disabled home for even the critically crippled who can talk. To avoid uncontrolled collisions, the wheelchair include...

Design and Implementation of Free Wireless Intercom System (Case Study: Kampala International University)

ABSTRACT In modern technology, wireless communication is widespread and it started to be used in everyday life, for example, Wireless phone chargers, home automation systems, etc. widely use wireless communication. People want smart systems to make their life easy, and I want to discard the cables that limit our mobility. The purpose of this project is to design and implement a free intercom system that uses WIFI in p2p (Peer-to-Peer) or WLAN (Wireless Local Area Network) as a means of commu...

Design and Implementation of a Four Dimensional Automatic Accident Avoidance System

ABSTRACT  This report contains five chapters, in chapter one, as an introductory part of this project report, contained in chapter, we first define what accident is, the background of the study, that is to say, how the problem started or what prompted us to carry out the project. The problem statement, this is about the challenges we are solving, the main objective, specific objectives, significance of the study, and scope of the study. In chapter two, this chapter covers the literature revi...
