ABSTRACT
This research focuses on establishing the interrelationship of texts in Kiswahili literature which touches on allusion, pastiche and parody in interpretation of Kiswahili literature. The selected texts which facilitated this study are Fumo Liyongo(1950), Kifo Kisimani(2001) and Mstahiki Meya(2009). The objective of this reseach was to demonstrate pastiche, parody and allusion in characterization, plot and thematic structure. The study also aimed at examining the impact pastiche, parody and allusion has on interpretation of literature works. as well as guiding on the new information which can be extracted from these texts when analysed on the basis of the selected parts of intertextuality. The study was guided by the following research questions: How is allusion in the selected texts portrayed? How are pastiche and parody illustrated at the level of characterization, thematic structure and plot in the selected texts? How does pastiche, parody and allusion hhelp in extracting new information when these texts are analysed according to intertextuality theory?. the research was interpretative in nature. it entailed carefully studying the selected texts and analysing them against the selected theory. the findings of the study indicate that pastiche, parody and allusion are clearly illustrated in the three above-mentioned texts in the characterization, plot, and thematically. With regard to theselected texts there is close inter-relationships between literature works which aims at complementing and enhancing previous works. It has given a basis on the use of the selected theory to guide interpretation and creation of more thrilling and up to date literature works but being guided on already existing texts. The research has illustrated a clear path towards achieving a democratic society in Africa from the lessons drawn from the selected texts. The selected theory has guided the study to achieve the set objectives. Recommendations have also been made concerning other areas related to intertextuality which need to be researched on.
