Mwananchi Wa Kawaida Kama Mdhulumu Wa Maslahi Yake Katika Tamthilia Za Kilio Cha Haki, Amezidi Na Mstahiki Meya.

 ABSTRACT

This research analysed the works of Al- Amin Mazrui, Timothy Arege and

Said Ahmed Mohamed, Kilio Cha Haki (1981), Mstahiki Meya (2009) and

Amezidi (1995) respectively. These works intend to show how the common

man is portrayed as the author of his own oppression. By employing character

traits of various characters, these works depict the way of life of citizens in

developing countries especially during the colonial and post-colonial period.

The research has demonstrated that the problems encountered by citizens in the

developing world originate from the citizens themselves. Therefore, the

research has identified the actions done by citizens that result in self-defeat.

The theories that guided this research are Realism of Friedrich Hegel and

Deconstruction of Jacques Derrida. Deconstruction theory aided in showing

how untrue the views held by many authors are about the causes of oppression

to the common man. Most authors attribute suffering of the common man to

poverty, poor leadership and archaic traditions among other reasons. The

research has demonstrated that to a larger extent, it is the common man who is

the author of his or her oppression. Realism enabled the researcher to describe

and analyze the problems encountered by citizens in which they oppress

themselves. This research was carried out in the library and texts were selected

through purposive sampling focusing on Mstahiki Meya, Kilio cha Haki and

Amezidi. The outcome from the selected texts was presented in the following

order: chapter one entails topic of study, research questions, objectives of the

study, scope of study, literature review, the purpose of the study and the

theoretical framework. Chapter two entails ways through which common man

oppresses himself or herself. Chapter three has dealt with effect of oppression

on the common man by focusing on the selected texts. Chapter four entails

different ways through which common man can prevent oppression and

chapter five entails the outcome of the research and the researcher’s

recommendations. It is expected that this research will be of importance in

revealing the role of the ordinary person in liberating or oppressing himself or

herself. It will also be of great significance to the citizens in comprehending

their roles in determining good leadership
