PROSPECT AND CHALLENGES OF TECHNOLOGY EDUCATION IN SOLVING RURAL INDUSTRIAL PROBLEM IN NIGER STATE.

The study was aimed to identify the prospects and challenges of technology education in solving rural industrial problems in Niger state. To carry out this study three research question were formulated and three hypotheses were tested at (0.05) level of significant to guide the study. A 40 – item questionnaire was developed and used to collect data from respondents. The population consists of 70 artisans and 70 technology teachers form selected district (wushishi, lavun, bosso, lapai, katha) of Niger state. The data collected was analyzed using mean, standard deviation and T-test statistics. The findings of this study reveal that local artisans need to be given opportunity to attend workshops, seminars, orientations, monitored by experts, setting of favorable policies for the rural industries, liaising with other industrial organization for partnership, technical institute and professional individuals on standard to be acquired by them, etc. Based on the above therefore, it was recommended among others that: training centers should be established, Standard Organization of Nigeria (SON) should liaise with the artisans, technology education institute, professional, and the government in order to standardize the product of the rural industries and compliance with the laid down standard.
