THE EFFECT OF SMALL SCALE ENTERPRISE ON SOCIO-ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT IN VANDEIKYA TOWN OF BENUE STATE


ABSTRACT

This research work structured in five chapters is centered on the effects of small scale enterprises on socioeconomic development of Vandeikya town of Benue state, Nigeria. Findings have revealed that individual and group enterprises are the common types of small scale enterprises operated in Vandeikya town. It also showed that the start up capital of these enterprises mostly come from personal savings, loan from banks and support from the government. Findings had discovered problems which impede small scale enterprises operators such as lack of start-up capital, inadequate or lack of land and good location to site enterprises, unfavorable government tax policies as well as insecurity. The researcher therefore recommends that government at all levels should encourage the growth of small scale enterprises by giving them the necessary assistance as regards to fund raising and equally advice them on how to utilize it effectively. Hence small scale  enterprises serves a great deal in the socioeconomic development of Vandeikya town, the researcher recommends that government of Benue state and Nigeria should continue to support in form of credit, loans and subsidies to promote the growth and development of more small scale enterprises, enact flexible and favorable tax policies that will encourage the growth of these enterprises as well as help entrepreneurs minimize crime wave by ensuring security of lives and properties of the small scale enterprises and their owners in Vandeikya township.
