ABSTRACT The general objective of the study is to determine the effect of capacity building on the performance of private and public enterprises in Uganda and the specific objectives of this study are to identify Capacity building strategies employed by private and public organizations in Uganda, to determine the level of organizational performance of public and private organizations in Uganda and to find out the relationship between capacity building and performance of private and public organizations in Uganda From the findings of the study, respondents agreed that there are capacity building strategies by 83.4% basing from the average index of 4.19 except that 75% of the respondents revealed that they have never ever attained training in various fields. The findings of the study also showed that the performance of private and public organizations has improved by 91% based from the average index of 4.56 except that 84.4% of the respondents rejected the Statement that the managerial performance of the organization has improved. Furthermore, the findings of the study revealed that there is strong linear positive relationship between capacity building and performance of public and private organizations and it was also revealed that an improvement in capacity building improves the performance of private and public organizations by 85%. The study recommended that organizations should facilitate trainings for their employees in various fields in order to equip them with various skills necessary to improve their performance since75% of the respondents revealed that they have never ever attained training in various fields, the organization should use more capacity building strategies for improving managerial performance since 84.4% of the respondents rejected the statement that the managerial performance of the organization has improved and that both private and public organization should greatly use both old and new capacity building strategies since capacity building improves their performance by 85%.
