ABSTRACT
The study was aimed at examining the relationship between ethnic conflict and socio economic development of selected house holders in Kismayo District of Somalia. The objectives of the study were; to determine the demographic characteristics of selected householders, in terms of age, gender, educational level, work experience, to determine the degree of ethnic conflict among the selected householders in Kismayo District, to determine the extent of the social- economic development among the selected house holders in Kismayo District, and to determine if there is significance relationship between in the level of ethnic conflict and the level of socio-economic development among the selected house holders in Kismayo District of Somalia. The target population of this study were selected house holders in Kismayo District of Somalia. Respondents were 1300 selected from respective house holder heads, community elders, and Local non-governmental organizations. The researcher selected 15 house holder heads and 50 from the community elders, finally 95 of the Local non governmental organizations in Kismayo District of Somalia. The researcher used the Slovene’s formula by getting minimum sample size. Sample of 297 were determined by the use of Krejcie, R, V, And Morgan, D.W. (1970) table. Respondents were selected to represent the views of entire population. This was selected in different propositions as presented in the diagram From the findings in table 6 above shows that 100% of the respondents accepted that there many tribes disagree due to land resources in Kismayo district of Somalia. According to the study finding, l3O% of the respondents revealed that Conflict over the religious value is due to different parts who believe different religious ideology. It is recommended that, from an understanding of ethnic composition of Somalia, there should be different methods through which the ethnic groups can be composed into states (provinces). Considering the dynamic distribution of ethnic groups in Somalia prior to the state creation experiment that gave birth to the current states, there were majority and minority ethnic groups within the polity
