A Correlation For Predicting The Viscosity Of Nigerian Crude Oils

AUST.RACT An -elnpTricaZ'-eq"uarlon that could be used for predicting the viscosity of Nigerian crudes is presented in this paper. The correlation uses oil specific gravity as the main correlating parameter, and also incorporates the effects of reservoir pressure, temperature and oil formation volume factor. ' i 'i _. . Dcua from well over 400 samples of Nigerian crudes wae used for developing the correlation, with most samples however, from reservoirs alar above saturation pressure. The resu...

The Sequence Dependent Machine Set-Up Problem: A Brief Overview.

ABSTRACT The Sequence Dependent Machine Setup Problem (MSP). a class of difficult problems in combinatorial optimization that is representative of a large number of important scientific and engineering problems, has been attracting much attention in recent times. In this study. literature and historical reviews of the MSP were carried out. Some recent developments were reviewed while possible future research directions were also highlighted.

Effects Of Cane Peeling And Aqueous Extraction On Compatibility Of Two Rattan Species With Portland Cement

ABSTRACT Rattan cane is a relatively abundant lignocellulosic in Africa and Asia that could be used for wood-cement composite production. However, rattans tend to inhibit cement setting. This study investigated the effects of cane peeling and aqueous extraction on maximum hydration temperature (Tmax) and setting time (tmax) rattancement- water systems using Calamus deerratus and Lacosperma secundiflorum rattan species. Peeling was done manually to remove the silified epidermis before hammer-m...

Carbontl V) oxide Capture anti Sequestration in Nigeria: Prospects and Challenges

Abstract The capture and storage 0/ carbo II dioxide (eeS) produced durtng the combusuon of fossil fuels 110· offers one option/or attaming large scale reductions in the enusstons of greenhouse gases and thus. promote a clean environment. It IS 1101l' becoming clear that ees technologies could promote the use or consumption of fossilfuels than otherwise previouslv thought. Tills paper presents an OI'er,lel" of the techniques Involved 111 the capture and sequestration of carbondioxideic'Oi)....

Control of Chaotic Oscillation and Response Charaterisation in Duffing Oscillator Using Vibration Absorber

Abstract This work investigated the control of chaotic behavior of a harmonically perturbed DufTing Oscillator using vibration absorber. The system of two degrees of freedom governing equations were simu Eated nu rner i~allyu sing classical fourth order Runge-Kutta algorithm for a constant time step. The solution time history, phase plots and Poincare maps were usd to validate tbe simulation. Essentially, the details of the' Poincare map were used numerically to determine the periodicity ofDu...

Design and Prototype Development of a Mini-Electric Arc Furnace

ABSTRACT Electric arc furnaces (EAF) have the capabilities required for furnaces used for metallurgical research. An electric arc furnace was designed and constructed to melt approximately 5kg of steel/cast iron scraps, using locally produced Soderberg electrodes. Tests carried out showed that it required about 60 minutes to heat up the furnace to the melting temperature of cast iron (1150C – 1400C). It took about 95 minutes to melt the first charge of 2kg resulting in a melting rate of 21....

The Effect of Tribological Processes on Productivity: A Case Study of Industries in Ibadan Metropolis of Nigeria

ABSTRACT This study analyzed the connection between tribological and other forms of processes in manufacturing industries to productivity in such outfits. Results from the study showed that 54% of the visited industries recorded the highest hours of downtime due to tribological processes, while,15% and 31% of the industries had the highest downtimes hours resulting from electrical and other processes respectively. Also 23% of the total industries were observed to have more electrical faults, ...

Application Of A Neurofuzzv Mathematical Model In The Development Of A Local Oven Design

ABSTRACT This .paper presents a contribution on the development ot a,neurofuzzy mathematicaJ model that aids if? captunnq and analyzing the, various parameters iri;oven design. The oven 'was designed ~pecif.ically, for domestic and commercial baking: operations, The neurofuzzy methodolOgy was used to requlate the oven baking temperatures to acceptable standards. Particular use was made 'of neurofuzzy model since it is animprovement on the process design. The work.was motiyatedby the need fm· ...

Assessment Of Noise Levels Generated In Swine Production Units In Ibadan, Nigeria

ABSTRACT The increase in pork consumption globally in recent times has led to a corresponding increase in pig production with more people being employed in the industry to provide the needed services. Pigs are known to generate a lot of noise which could constitute a potential health hazard and against which remedial measures must be taken. The establishment of the levels of noise generated in piggery production units and their possible consequences on the workers in such units was the main o...

Analysis Of Traffic Flow On Selected Two-Lane Highways In Ibadan Metropolis

ABSTRACT Traffic congestion is a common feature on highways in many cities of the world, including Ibadan, Nigeria. Previous studies have shown that several mathematical traffic flow models developed to analyse congestion cannot be easily generalised or adapted to varying situations. In addition, validation errors of some models are as high as 60.0 %. In pursuit of the objective of minimising traffic congestion in parts of the Ibadan metropolis, headway simulation models were developed for th...

A Correlation of Oil Recovery Factors for Water-Drive Reservoirs in the Niger Delta

A,s i.mpI e correlation has been .developed for estimating primary "recovery facto;rs for Niger Deltaoil reservoirs~The correlation ,. which was developed, from data collected across the Niger Delta, 'is valid for reservoirs with strong, wa~ter d'r Lves. .. " I~ , ' , Only two major parameters are r equi r-ed ,for 'the recovery factor "calculations . in this" work, ',unlike other multi-parameter correlations. This 'makes t.hLs rco.rr'eLat.Lonvery easy to apply. An expression has also beeri in...

Some Grinding Factors Affecting Locally Formulated Silicon Carbide Abrasive Wheels.

ABSTRACT / grinding wheel is an expendable wheel which is made of very small, sharp and hard silicon carbide abrasive particles or grits held together by strong porous bond. This paper presents a study on some factors and parameters of silicon carbide abrasive grinding wheels which were developed and formulated Irom locally sourced raw materials in Nigeria. Six local raw material substitutes were identified through pi lot study and a systematic search for an optimal formulation of silicon car...

Effect of Some Variables on The Carburization of a Locally Produced Steel

AbstractThe effects of carburising time, temperature and percentage energiser on the case-depth and hardness of a steel ST37-2 have been studied. For carburising medium consisting of hardwood charcoal and coke and various amount of sodium carbonate as energiser, increasing carburising time and temperature increased both the depth and hardness of the case. Increasing both the amount of energiser and carburising time lowered the activation energy for the carburisation process. The average hardn...
