Management Of Solid Watse Disposal In Nigeria A Case Study Of Enugu State Waste Management Authority (ESWAMA)

ABSTRACT

The main purpose of this work is to examine the management of solid waste disposal by Enugu State Waste management Authority (ESWAMA). The research utilized library, observations and sample survey technique. Other related literatures were reviewed. Questionnaires based on formulated hypotheses were also employed. Data gathered were analyzed using textual, diagrams (charts and graphs) and tabular forms of data presentation. Percentages and figures were also used to clarify the relationships between variables. Consequently, the finding was that ESWAMA is not well funded by the state government for effective waste disposal management in Enugu urban; do not motivate their workers adequately, do not have adequate modern equipments/ machines and staff/ expatriates to take care of the modern demands of waste disposal management; In a nutshell the following recommendations were made: that government should adequately enforce the relevant sanitation laws; step up training and re –training of the ESWAMA staff; increase its monthly subventions to ESWAMA to enable it face the challenges of modern waste disposal management method. Suggestion for further studies should be on the effects of improper management of solid waste.
