ABSTRACT
This study examined the impact of Pay Reform and Work Performance on Tanzania’s Public Service by using the Capital Development Authority (CDA)- Dodoma as a case study. The study was conducted so as to find out the impact of the introduced pay reform since 2000 on work performance of employees in public service. The review of the literature conducted explains and highlights the role of motivation particularly the increase in pay to workers which ultimately could results in the improvement of performance services delivery. The field data was collected through questionnaires, interview guides and check list to find the results. Findings of this study were analyzed and discussed quantitatively and qualitatively. Figures and tables were used to analyze frequencies and percentages of the findings collected from the field for interpretations. The findings suggest that purposive actions should be taken to improve financial support to institutions, improving policy that guide pay reforms, political leaders especially the president should apply positive political will towards the improvement of workers’ lives through the provision of acceptable salary reflecting current living. Limitations of this conceptual study are that it covers only one aspect of motivation for feedback. Referring to the findings, the researcher recommends that for effective and efficient work performance in public sectors, workers should be motivated with various incentives including good pay. Therefore efforts should be made to formulate a good pay reform that will reflect the current socio – economic situation of the country and hence good performance of public service.
