Application of Remote Sensing and GIS in the Population Study of Achara Layout Enugu, Enugu State, Nigeria

ABSTRACT This project is an attempt to study population distribution in Achara Layout Enugu, in Enugu State through integration of Remote sensing and Geographic Information System (GIS). The Remote sensing data used in this study included high spatial resolution Quick Bird imagery. Questionnaires were given out for use in generating the desired product in an interactive GIS environment. Field site capturing was based on basic survey principle, technique and instruction. Field work was done t...

Housing Satisfaction Attributes among Households in Uyo Capital City Territory, Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria.

ABSTRACT In Nigeria, attempts at determining household housing satisfaction based on household income are often not guided by rigorous parameters. Past housing policy lumped income groups together, variations in income levels notwithstanding. Housing satisfaction aspirations of many people were frustrated. The unwholesome condition manifested in building alteration practices from their original forms to households’ desirable forms. The study is aimed at determining indices for various inco...

Commercial Horticulture practice in Nigeria: Its Socio-spatial Effects in Abuja Municipal Area Council

This was the work I used as my project topic, where I sampled the opinion of people living in Abuja. The impact of horticulture on life is very essential especially during the heat season and the discussion of climate change.

A Regression Kriging Application for Rainfall Data Interpolation. Geostatistical Approach

There is increasing demand for gridded products of topographical, meteorological and climatological variables with high quality and spatial resolution from many different disciplines such as agriculture, construction, biodiversity planning, forestry and risk assessment and decision making in environmental management. In this report discuss application of some common methods to rainfall interpolation by considering rainfall spatial variability. Some common geostatistical interpolation methods ...

ESTIMATING THE NET SURFACE SHORTWAVE RADIATION USING MODIS DATA

Net Surface Shortwave Radiation (NSSR) is a key quantity for the estimation of net radiation (đť‘…đť‘›) and đť‘…đť‘› is a key component of the Earth energy balance. The most practical and reliable method for estimating solar radiation is based on remote sensing because remote sensing observation values are practical than location based measurements. It has been observed that existing ancillary data are not sufficient to have an accurate solar radiation estimates due to the limited amount of g...

Ecological Economics : Valuation of Ecosystem services

Ecosystem services are the beneficial outcomes, for the natural environment or people that result from ecosystem functions. Some examples of ecosystem services are support of the food chain, harvesting of animals or plants, and the provision of clean water or scenic views. In order for an ecosystem to provide services to humans, some interaction with, or at least some appreciation by humans is required. Thus, functions of ecosystems are value-neutral, while their services have value to...

Observation Problems Related to Superposition

For a long time it was thought that light can't escape the Universe, because in traveling outward it merely expands the boundary of the Universe, largely neglecting the contradictions created by this thought, hoping to find an answer about what was not taken into account somewhere in the future. Without even trying to think of another possibility and trying to imagine a much simpler answer that light doesn't do it at all. We, without our high-precision observation machines, are non-determinis...

Carbon Sequestration By The Selected Tree Species In Mukundara National Park

Diversity in India is observed in almost all the fields.  Diversity is a concept about range of variation or differences among entities.  India is a land of physical, ecological, biological, socio, cultural and linguistic diversity. It is characterized by innumerable varieties of climate pattern and habitats.  Vegetation in relation to environment has been the major approach in studying the ecological aspects. These aspects present an integrated picture of the interactions of the species, ...

A Proposed General Hospital for Deba Gombe State "Improved Support Services for Better Patient Care"

ABSTRACT Man's needs for Healthcare can not be over emphasized. For man to be able to achieve his desired goals, he needs a sound and healthy body and mind. Economic, Social, Political and Cultural Progress of man moves hand in hand with his State of health. This made healthcare to be the right of every Individual irrespective of race, colour or religion. Hospitals are institutions which provide Medical services to ensure or meet the health needs of a community. The professionals who work wit...

Field observations of the behavior of mangrove climbing sesarmid crabs in Anibong Bay, Tacloban City, Philippines

Two years after Super Typhoon Haiyan, six species of tree-climbing sesarmid crabs were identified in Anibong Bay. In the three-week surveillance from April to June 2015, crabs were observed climbing the upper premises of the mangrove trees during high tide and moving down to mangal floors (mud) during low tide. Foraging on senescent and decayed leaves occurred both daytime and nighttime. Some crabs were observed bringing food to their mud mounds and burrows. This paper depicts the behavioral ...

Wolfing Sustenance from Disturbed Wetlands

After Super Typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan), the people of Tacloban City, Philippines, must survive and sustain human existence. In an ecosystem devastated from its original state, Taclobanons had to subsidize the resources that were left. Wetlands as being the source of food yet could be a source of threat as the alteration of the quality of the waters due to the accumulation of sediments after the deadly storm surge. Moreso, food preparation methods could also be a pressing avenue for health hazar...

Resiliency of seagrass beds in shallow waters of Tacloban City, Philippines after super Typhoon Yolanda

Seagrasses have high ecological services as a promoter of biological productivity and biodiversity. When Super  Typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan) devastated Tacloban City in 2013, two years after, seagrass beds started to emerge in  the shallow waters of Cancabato Bay, Anibong Bay, and San Juanico Straight. Five species of seagrass were  identified: Cymodocea rotundata, Cymodocea serrulata, Enhalus acoroides, Halodule uninervis and Thalassia  hemprichii. Pooled resiliency attributes from literatur...

Resilient Seagrass in the Realm of Climate Change

Though seagrasses had been confronted with adverse conditions brought on by climate change and resulting in their drastic decline all over the world, some of their attributes showed resiliency. When Tacloban City, Philippines, was devastated by Super Typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan) a year after, seagrass emerged even without restoration. Various literature also observed this resiliency when sea-level rises, even as carbon dioxide and temperature increase. Though confronted with challenges, both natu...

Microcosm between Seagrass and Bare Patches Supporting Communities of Gastropods and Bivalves after a Large-Scale Disturbance

In an ecosystem that had experienced large-scale disturbance such as the Supertyphoon Haiyan in 2013, four years after, gastropods and bivalves were started to be amassed by local gleaners in seagrass and bare patches in shallow waters of Tacloban City. In order to compare which among the two microcosms would have a higher abundance, four stations were established along the coastlines of Burayan, San Jose, Magsaysay Boulevard, Anibong and Caliro, Diit; laying two 50- meters transect lines in ...
