Mathematical Modelling of the COVID-19 Pandemic with Demographic Effects

Abstract/Overview In this paper, a latent infection susceptible–exposed–infectious–recovered model with demographic efects is used to understand the dynamics of the COVID-19 pandemics. We calculate the basic reproduction number (R0) by solving the diferential equations of the model and also using next-generation matrix method. We also prove the global stability of the model using the Lyapunov method. We showed that when the R0 < 1 or R0 ≤ 1 and R0 > 1 or R0 ≥ 1 the disease-free ...

Incremental modernization of statistics teaching and curriculum at Maseno University, Kenya

Abstract/Overview Modernisation of statistics teaching is a continual problem the world over. The advances in statistical methods and tools along with the growing demand of applied practitioners creates a dual need of people with the theoretical knowledge to take the subject further and those with the practical knowledge and skills for the many current problems requiring statistical support. The universities in Kenya are largely still teaching theory as was done 40 years ago. Change is po...

Mathematical model for nutrient exchange across the placenta

Abstract/Overview This study presents a new mathematical model for nutrient exchange across the placenta which include nutrient exchange from foetus to mother to provide a system of equations in the form, Y ሶ ൌ AY ൅ rԦሺtሻ and whose solution was analyzed for equilibrium and stability. This model introduces another parameter that takes care of waste elimination from foetus to mother. It was established that the final model is stable compared to the existing models, that is, the e...

Teachers` gender and primary school pupils` achievement in mathematics in Kenya

Abstract/Overview This descriptive causal comparative study examined the relationship between teacher’s gender and in primary schools pupils’ performance in mathematics in Kenya. The study objective was to investigate the effect of teachers’ gender on primary schools pupils’ mathematics achievement in Vihiga district Kenya. The study was conducted through an ex-post facto research design. A total of 46 mathematics teachers were sampled from 153 schools. Data was collected using a ...

Mathematical Modelling and Simulation of Competition for Students’ Population Via Influence And Economic Factors With Holling Type Ii Response

Abstract The increase in Kenyan population attracted the establishment of more schools, both public schools and private schools. This was due to the need to cater for the increasing number of students being enrolled in schools. Moreover, the dynamics of students’ population both in public schools and private schools have created the changes in the schools’ population. This occurs through transfer from one category of school to the other, through completion of the learning period and thro...

Recurrent Malaria in Kenya: Survival Distribution and Equality of Survival Distribution

Abstract/Overview Malaria is a leading cause of morbidity and mortality in Kenya, mostly affecting the rural poor, especially young children and pregnant women. Most clinical studies in malaria involve a number of equally important endpoints. This would normally portend challenges in relation to issues about the study design, analysis of the data and interpretation of the results. The majority of malaria related clinical studies do not factor in or experience difficulties in analyzing rec...

Effect of Sampling Bias on the Family of Exponential Random Graph Models

Abstract/Overview There is increased use and application of exponential random graphs emanating from use of big data and other techniques. This study sought to establish how sampling bias affects the exponential random graphs. This study was guided by the following objectives: to specify and estimate exponential random graph models with biased sampling, to determine the maximum likelihood estimate for family of exponential random graphs with sampling bias., to determine the suitable sampl...

Survival Analysis of Broilers in Two Poultry Farms in Kaloleni Sub County

Abstract/Overview This research is about a survival analysis on broilers in two poultry farms in Kaloleni sub-county. Chapter one gives an insight into the introduction of the paper, chapter two discusses the methodology used, chapter three gives the results, chapter four discusses the findings briefly and chapter five gives the conclusions arrived at and some recommendations.

Development of silver-magnetite nanocomposites for cysteine sensing and dye degradation

Abstract: The development of easily recoverable and re-usable catalytic nanostructures exhibiting high performances using simple and cheap procedures for applications in bio-sensing and wastewater treatment technologies is currently a prominent area of research. Noble-metal inclusive magnetic nano-catalysts in particular, have of recent gathered interest owing to their ease of separation from reaction products, environmental benignity and improved activities through synergistic qualitie...

A robust test for multivariate publication bias in meta-analysis

Abstract: A rank regression based procedure for testing for the existence of publication bias in meta-analysis is proposed. The method is designed to possess the robustness of the Begg rank correlation test for publication bias and the efficiency of Egger’s regression approach. The procedure uses the Jaeckel rank-regression framework along with a rank prediction protocol for estimating the intercept term of Egger-type regression models for a robust and efficient test of publication bias in...

Approximation solutions of the sum of monotone mapping inclusion, split equality, fixed point and variation inequality problems

Abstract: Many of the most important problems arising in nonlinear analysis reduce to solv ing inclusions of monotone mappings, split equilibrium, variational inequality or fixed point problems. Analytical methods for finding exact solutions of many non linear equations are rare or unknown. Therefore, methods of approximating the solutions of nonlinear inclusion problems are of interest where solutions are known to exist. In this thesis, we combine Douglas-Rachford and Viscosity methods and ...

The Pathogenesis of AIDS-related and non-AIDS-related KS: A mathematical perspective,

Abstract: Kaposi’s sarcoma is a common AIDS-defining cancer that has continued to afflict patients living with HIV-1, especially, individuals who are currently not on HAART or whose HIV-1 status is not known. Even individuals who have had a prior HHV-8 infection and are on HAART are at an increased risk of developing KS whenever drug failure occurs and when one develops drug resistance to the drugs being administered. Like other herpesvirus, KS associated herpesvirus (KSHV), also known as ...

Some mew and generalized families of probability distributions with applications

Abstract: Some new generalized distributions called the new Gamma Lindley-Log-logistic (GLLLoG) distribution, new Weibull Generalised-G (NWG-G) family of distributions and the Exponentiated Half-Logistic Odd Lindley-G family of distributions are proposed and presented. These distributions contain several distributions such as Half-Logistic, Odd Lindley, Lindley, Log-Logistic, new-Rayleigh generalized-G, new exponential generalized-G, new Rayleigh-G and the new-Weibull-G family of distributio...

Relative gottlieb groups of embeddings between complex grassmannians

Abstract: Let Grk,n be the complex Grassmann manifold of k-linear subspaces in ℂn. We compute rational relative Gottlieb groups of the embedding i:Grk,n Grk,n+r and show that the G-sequence is exact if r≥kn-k.

Optimal control of the spread of meningitis: in the presence of behaviour change of the society and information dependent vaccination

Abstract: A mathematical model of meningococcal meningitis with incidence dependent self-protection measure and vaccination is formulated and analysed. The vaccination considered is assumed to be given to everyone and is information dependent. It is shown that the disease free equilibrium is globally asymptotically stable, which implies that if the disease reproduction number R0 can be reduced to a value less than unity then it is possible to eradicate the meningococcal meningitis. In additi...
