Abstract: This study was carried out to examine the physical and mechanical properties of thermally and chemically modified Leucaena leucocephala wood. Sample planks were obtained from Akure and reduced to defect free samples of 20mm × 20mm × 60mm. Wood samples were oven dried at 105 oC and cooled in a dessicator to a constant weight before the thermal treatment. Heat treatment of wood was carried out in a Muffle Furnace at 140 0C, 160 0Cand 180 0C for 1hr and 2 hrs. Butyl Acetate was u...

ABSTRACT A feeding trial was conducted in a completely randomized design to evaluate the overall performance, blood constituents and carcass analysis of 5-day old Marshal broiler chicks that are fed with different diets; maize diet with and without AA supplements and unpeeled cassava root meal (UCRM) diet with and without AA supplements; of four replicates each and 10 chicken per replicate. The birds were assigned to these diets; feed, and water was given ad-libitum throughout the experiment...

ABSTRACT Experiment to investigate the effects of inorganic and organic fertilizers on growth and yield of Basella alba(Indian spinach) was conducted at the Horticultural nursery, University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, Ogun state between the months of February-May 2011. Three fertilizer sources (NPK 20-10-10 and Tithonia based compost at rate of 250kg per hectare, poultry manure at rate of 3 tons per hectare) were used. Treatments were arranged in a Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) and ...
ABSTRACT A study was conducted to assess the meristic and morphorlogical features, variation in strain and the length-weight relationship of 60 fish samples of Erpetoichthys calabaricus inhabiting the wetland of Ogun waterside Local Government area, Ogun state, Nigeria. Fish samples were collected with artisanal gears (bamboo traps) during January and February, 2011. Twenty four of the samples were female while thirty six were male. The estimated b value (allometry coefficient) of the equati...
ABSTRACT Field experiment was carried out from January to June, 2011 at the university of Agriculture Abeokuta (70 151 30 251E) to determine the effect of time of introducing jute mallow on the growth and yield of hot pepper (Capsicum frutescens L.). The experiment was laid out in Randomized complete block design (RCBD) in a split plot arrangement with three replicates. The main plot was cropping system (sole crop pepper and pepper intercropped with Corchorus) and the subplot was the time of...
ABSTRACT The purpose of this study was to determine the genetic (breed) and non genetic (sex and age) factors affecting serum biochemical parameters in Nigerian Sheep. Blood samples were collected from about 119 sheep which comprised the four breeds in Nigeria which include: Uda, Balami, Yankassa and West African Dwarf. The results obtained from various analyses for serum parameters showed significant effect (P
ABSTRACT Recurrent drought and decrease agricultural productivity during the last decades in West Africa, especially in the Sahelian zone, points to the need for a clearer understanding of the Onset dates, Cessation dates, Length of growing season, dry spell lengths and their consistencies, which pose major threats to the agricultural sector. Daily rainfall data for ten (10) years were analyzed for eight (8) meteorological stations in the Sudan Savanna region of Nigeria, with the applicatio...
ABSTRACT This study was carried out to look at the efficacy of using lactic acid and distilled water as wash solution to reduce rate of recontamination of some specific microbes on refrigerated chicken carcass. Frozen chicken wings was obtained from an open commercial market (Kuto), Abeokuta, in Ogun State, Nigeria. The skin from the lean meat was removed and a certain measured amount was washed with Distilled Water and (0.4%) Lactic Acid and Agitated with stomatcher blender. 1ml of the rins...
ABSTRACT A study on the effects of stage of lactation and parity on blood volume and milk yield in West African Dwarf sheep was carried out using (12) lactating West African Dwarf sheep for twelve (12) weeks of lactation. In the second week of the experiment, the dams were weighed using pocket balance scale. Evans blue dye solution was injected into the animal through the jugular vein and waited for 10-15 minutes before bleeding the animal through the same media. The milk yield were measured...
ABSTRACT The study was conducted to determine the effect of Breed, Sex and Age on serum parameters in Nigerian goats. Blood samples were collected from a total of 118 goats across different breed, sex and age. Eighty- four (84) from Sahel goat, eleven (11) from Red Sokoto and twenty-four (24) from West African Dwarf goat. The result obtained from the analysis of serum parameters showed that Breed had significant effect (P
ABSTRACT This study examined the population structure and genetic distance between two Clariid species, Clarias gariepinus and Heterobranchus bidorsalis using microsatellite markers. Genetic strains of 20 domesticated samples of both species were characterized with four microsatellite markers. 95% of the samples amplified upon PCR amplification and 44.3% of the total alleles observed for all the loci were heterozygote. Analysis showed that all the four loci were polymorphic for all the sampl...
