GENERALISED BERNOULLI MODEL FOR CORRELATED BINARY RESPONSES: APPLICATION TO THE NATIONAL INCOME DYNAMICS STUDY (NIDS) DATASETS

ABSTRACT The bivariate Bernoulli model was used to estimate covariate parameters for conditional as well as marginal models for the NIDs datasets. This is a follow- up research on one conducted by Islam et al. (2012) which introduced the use of the bivariate Bernoulli model to properly specify the dependence among bivariate binary responses. The covariate parameters were estimated by first expressing the proposed model in the exponential family form, finding the log-likelihood function and th...

ASSESSING EXISTING WATER DEMAND AND SUPPLY PATTERNS AND REUSE OPTIONS AS ADDITIONAL SOURCES OF WATER IN THE GREATER ACCRA METROPOLITAN AREA (GAMA)

ABSTRACT Attempts at addressing the increasing water shortage problems in the Greater Accra Metropolitan Area (GAMA) over the years have been biased towards supply management without critically assessing the efficiency of water use from existing schemes of demand management. This study sought to assess the current water demand and supply patterns, and how this affects wastewater reuse options. It investigated whether socio-economic status as well as status of household water supply in differe...

STUDIES OF LISTERIA MONOCYTOGENES (BACTERIUM) IN SOME SELECTED LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREAS OF PLATEAU STATE, NIGERIA

Studies were carried out on the distribution, characterization, pathogenicity and antibiotic susceptibility of Listeria monocytogenes in Six Local Government Areas of Plateau State, Nigeria. A total of One hundred and fifty (150) experimental samples were taken from each test Local Government Area. The isolation was carried out with the aid of cold enrichment, selective broth and selective Listeria agar. The experimental samples examined included: cow, goat, poultry, rabbit and sheep wa...

SPATIAL AND SEASONAL ECOLOGY OF CHOLERA IN ACCRA METROPOLITAN AREA (AMA) FROM 2008 TO 2016

Abstract The Accra Metropolitan Area (AMA) is a cosmopolitan area with people coming from various economic, social and health backgrounds. Cholera has however been endemic in the area for over three decades. The research aimed at finding the conditions causing the endemic presence of the disease within the Accra Metropolitan Area. The study involved the mapping of cholera risk factors across selected communities of different income levels within the AMA in order to show the level of risk face...

STUDIES OF ALUMINIUM COMPLEXES OF SOME MODEL BIOLOGICAL LIGANDS

Complexes of Aluminium with some model bioligands, were prepared and characterized by elemental analysis, melting point, conductivity, solubility and infra-red spectroscopic studies. The complexes are soluble in water and some organic solvents such as chloroform, ethanol and methanol. The melting point ranges from 258°C - 282°C for complexes with Al Cl3, and 8Ql C - 95 C, for complexes with AlNH4(S04) 2 .12H2 0. Conductivity studies reveals that the prepared· complexes are non-electr...

STATISTICAL ANALYSIS OF FEMALE STUDENTS' ENROLMENT AT THE JUNIOR SECONDARY SCHOOL LEVELS IN NIGERIA

This study is concerned with the female enrolment at the junior secondary school levels in Nigeria. In writing this project, the approach has been to determine the trend in female enrolment at the junior secondary school level by the geo - political zones. This research work is organized into five chapters. The first chapter deals with the introduction of the study. In this chapter, the background information is provided, objective of the study is outlined and the significance of the stu...

FLOOD VULNERABILITY AND ADAPTATION IN ACCRA: EXAMINING ASPECTS OF BOTH CLIMATE AND NON-CLIMATE FACTORS

ABSTRACT Flood is most predominant natural disaster in the world, affecting most cities in Africa especially during rainy seasons. Only an average of 100 floods per decade used to occur. However, since middle of 20th century, flood cases have increased to more than 2,800 per decade. In Sub-Saharan African countries, efforts at managing flood disasters are mainly reactive approaches such as provision of relief to affected people. Reasons are that there is low level of technology for adaptation...

PLANNING TARGET MARGIN CALCULATIONS BASED ON THE EVALUATION OF ELECTRONIC PORTAL IMAGING DURING PROSTATE CANCER RADIOTHERAPY

ABSTRACT Set-up errors are the inherent features of the radiation treatment process. Coverage of target volume is a direct function of set-up margins, which should be optimized to prevent unintended irradiation of adjacent normal tissues. The aim of this study was to evaluate three dimensional set-up errors and propose optimum margins for target volume coverage in prostate cancer radiotherapy. 1620 Portal images were obtained for an average of 30 fractions per patient for 54 prostate cancer p...

SOME NEW ENCRYPTION TECHNIQUES USING FIREWALLS AND RANDOM NUMBER GENERA TORS

ln this work, the researchers consider the concept of Information Security by the application of firewall and encryption techniques. Also, the problem of explicitly exposing infonnation in transit is discussed. We developed several algorithms. Among the algorithms are those of random sequence and non-arithmetic sequence using modified generators for the problem to secure information that may pass through intermediate computers linked in the Internet. Some of these algorithms employ modif...

MICROBIAL QUALITY OF FISH ALONG THE TILAPIA, AFRICAN CATFISH AND SARDINELLA ARTISANAL VALUE CHAINS IN KPONG AND JAMES TOWN, GHANA

ABSTRACT Fish from artisanal sources constitute the most important animal protein in the Ghanaian diet. The availability and safety of fish on the Ghanaian market is however now unpredictable owing to potential rapid microbial growth which results from high ambient temperatures and poor handling along the artisanal value chains. Little is known about the artisanal fish value chains as well as the food safety knowledge and handling practices of key stakeholders involved. This study aimed at ma...

SOME ADJUSTED RIDGE ESTIMATORS AND ITS CORRELATION-FREE VERSION

The recently developed Adjusted Ridge Estimator (ARE) for handling multicollinearity problem in Linear Regression model does not require the use of the biasing or ridge parameter, K, unlike the Ridge Regression Estimators (RRE) rather it requires a diagonalization of the correlation vector of the explanatory variables and the dependent variable being raised to a power of half In this research, the effects of other powers on the Adjusted Ridge Regression Estimator were investigated and a ...

DEVELOPMENT OF STARTER CULTURE FOR THE PRODUCTION OF DEGUE, A WEST AFRICAN TRADITIONAL FERMENTED MILK PRODUCT

ABSTRACT Burkina is a milk/millet product which has suddenly become popular in Ghana in the last few years. The product is thought to have originated from Burkina Faso but Burkina is unknown in that country. Rather Degue, a Fulani fermented milk product containing millet is well known in West African Sahelian countries including Burkina Faso. This work was carried out to compare the burkina and Degue processes, and develop a starter culture for the production of Burkina/ Degue in Ghana. A sur...

SOLUTION OF LINEAR ALGEBRAIC EQUATIONS BY CRAMER'S RULE METHOD USING PASCAL PROGRAMMING

The purpose of this work is not to present a collection of routines that might appear in a professional software library; rather, the intention is to introduce a method of solving linear algebraic equations using Pascal Programming. This dissertation solves linear algebraic equations by Cramer's rule method using Pascal Programming. The basis for this method of solution was obtained from the knowledge of numerical method, such a method lies within the discipline of numerical analysis.
