Hydrogen;The Fuel for the Future

The usefulness and benefits of hydrogen as a fuel is of no comparison, as it does not contribute to the environmental hazard i.e air pollution caused by other fuels such as methane and petroleum. The end product of hydrogen in fuel cells and combustion engine is energy and water vapor as its only byproduct.

THE ROLE OF ICT IN THE AGE OF KNOWLEDGE ECONOMY ACROSS NIGERIA’S POWER SECTOR: A CASE STUDY OF KADUNA ELECTRICITY DISTRIBUTION COMPANY (KEDC)

Abstract Information and communication technology (ICT) plays an important role in today’s society. The structural transformation in the economy, society and culture tend to work faster in this era of information. This study examines the ICT role, revolution and its impacts in the age of knowledge economy across Nigeria’s power sector, with Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company (KEDC) in particular. The study incorporated the use of questionnaires in such a way to assess the level...

INCIDENCE OF HAEMOGLOBINOPATHIES IN EHIME-MBANO LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA OF IMO STATE, NIGERIA.

ABSTRACT. A study of haemoglobinopathies in Ehime-Mbano Local Government Area of Imo State was carried out with mostly students of secondary schools in the area who are true representatives of the population. The result showed that 20% of the people randomly sampled are carriers of the sickle trait (HbAS) while the remaining 80% have genotype of HbAA. The incidence of blood group antigen showed that 29.2% (146), 12.0% (60), 3.0% (15) and 55.8% (279) have antigens A, B, AB and O respectively. ...

GEOCHEMICAL CHARACTERISTICS WITH RESPECT TO GOLD MINERALIZATION OF BENI/KAFIN-KORO AREA (PART OF SHEET 165, BISHINI SW), NORTH-CENTRAL, NIGERIA

A total of 21 samples were analyzed in the laboratory, Inductively Coupled Plasma-Atomic Emission Spectrum (ICP-AES) was employed in the whole rock analysis for oxides, total sulphide (TOS), total carbon (TOC) and loss on ignition (LOI), while Inductively Coupled Plasma-Mass Spectroscopy (ICP-MS) was employed in the analysis for trace metals including gold, and rare earth elements (REE) that were either associated with or served as pathfinder for gold. Statistical analyses revealed an anomaly...

Antimicrobial Activity, Chemical Compositions and Proximate Analysis of Ixora Coccinea L. Leaves on Some Clinical Pathogens

Plants derived bioactive compounds have been the centre of recent owing to their health promoting effects. An attempt was made in evaluating the phytochemical, minerals, proximate and anti-microbial activity of analyses standard agar well diffusion method saponins, tannins, flavon minerals analysis revealed the presence of manganese and phosphorus. Highest mineral content was recorded in magnesium (21. Proximate analysis showed the presence of ash (10.3%), moisture (7.10%), protein (16.45%), ...

Epilepsy and Ethno Medicinal Plant in Hausa/Fulani tribe

Introduction Epilepsy is a common medical and social disorder or group of disorders with unique characteristics. Epilepsy is usually defined as a tendency to recurrent seizures. The word “epilepsy” is derived from Latin and Greek words for “seizure” or “to seize upon”. This implies that epilepsy is an ancient disorder; indeed, in all civilizations it can be traced as far back as medical records exist. In fact, epilepsy is a disorder that can occur in all mammalian species, probabl...

STUDY ON PHYTOCHEMICAL SCREENING AND PROXIMATE ANALYSIS OF CENTAUREA PRAECOX Oliv and Hiern

ABSTRACT Phytochemical and proximate analyses were carried out on leafy stem and flower head extract of Centaurea praecox grown in Sokoto, using standard methods. The result of phytochemical analysis shows that the flower head contain 1.67mg/100g Alkaloid, 2.50mg/100 saponins, 5.20mg/100g flavonoid, 4.07mg/100g Steroid. The proximate analyses revealed that the flower head contain 3% moisture, 11.5% Ash, 3% crude lipid, 3.5% crude protein, 25% crude fibre and 57% carbohydrate. The mineral anal...

Antimicrobial Properties, Phytochemical Composition, and Phenotypic Resistance Pattern of Selected Enteropathogenic Microorganism on Ageratumconyzoides (Goat Weed) Leaf Extract

The aim of this study is to determine the phytochemical composition, antimicrobial properties and phenotypic resistance pattern of selected enteropathogenic micro organism on Ageratum conyzoides leaf extract. Enteropathogenic isolates were collected from Adekunle Ajasin University Health Centre, Akungba Akoko, Ondo State and were identified using Microbact™ 24E Identification kit. Antibiotic sensitivity testing was carried out against the enteropathogenic organism using Kirby-Bauer disc dif...

The Concept of Nonribosomal Peptide Sythetases: Industrial Application in Biosynthesis of Antibiotics

Abstract Nonribosomal peptide synthetases (NRPSs) are multimodular enzymes that are used wholly or partly in the biosynthesis of antiobiotics; a natural product that fall into the class of secondary metabolites. NRPSs have diverse functions and have also been used in the synthesis of toxins, siderophores, or pigments, among others. Unlike other proteins, its biosynthesis is independent of ribosomal machinery. Nonribosomal peptides are synthesized on large nonribosomal peptide synthetase...

CLINICAL TRIAL REGULATION IN NIGERIA AND NAFDAC

This work describes the role of NAFDAC in the regulation of clinical trials in Nigeria. Clinical  trials  are  experiments  or  observation  done  in  clinical  research. Such prospective biomedical  or  behavioural  research  studies  on human participants are  designed  to  answer  specific  questions  about  biomedical  or behavioural  interventions,  including  new treatments (such  as novel vaccines, drugs, dietary choices, dietary supplements and medical device...

The purpose of this work is to compare the effect of convectional antibiotics with medicinal plant (Parkia biglobosa (Jacq.)Benth) against multiple antibiotics resistant Uropathogenic bacteria isolates.(MARUB), which was isolated from basically two hospital in Ondo State, Nigeria. The two hospitals are Gani Fawehinmi Diagnostic center, Ondo and Federal Medical Center, Owo between July, 2017 and October, 2017. fifty two (52) Gram negative bacteria isolated from urine of UTIs patient at the Gan...

Estimation of Global Solar Radiation Flux Over Ibadan

Renewable energy resources are those having a cycling time less than 100 years and are renewed by the nature and their supply exceeds the rate of consumption. Renewable energy systems use resources that are constantly replaced in nature and are usually less polluting. This project work estimates the solar radiation flux over Ibadan, a south-western city in Nigeria. The estimated models for the solar radiation over Ibadan are obtained for the period of ten years (1995 to 2004). The solar radia...

Indoor Gamma Dose Rate Exposure Levels in the Faculty of Science, University of Ibadan

Building materials are one of the potential sources of indoor radioactivity because of the naturally occuring radionuclides in them. Exposure to indoor ionizing radiation, like gamma radiation, results in critical health challenges. This work was designed to assess the indoor gamma dose rate level following the renovations of offices of lecturers in Faculty of Science, University of Ibadan using RDS-30 Survey meter. Measurements were made at 110 locations after renovations and in some selecte...
