Extracellular release of acid phosphatase from blood stream forms of Trypanosoma brucei brucei.

ABSTRACT Acid phosphatase (ACP) activity was demonstrated in blood stream form of Trypanosome brucei brucei harvested from infected Wister rats by Ion Exchange DEAE Cellulose 52 chromatography. Whole parasite extract (WPE) and Excretory Secretory Extract (ESE) were prepared and analyzed for acid phosphatase activity. A higher ACP activity (85.5 µmol/min) was recorded in WPE compared to ESE (36.8 µmol/min). ACP activity in ESE is suggestive of the presence of a cell rich enzyme. Phase separ...

Investigation of the Effect of the Addition of Petroleum Waste to Interlocking Bricks Constituent

ABSTRACT Incinerator ash was investigated for its potential use as a replacement for sand and cement in concrete interlocking bricks. The physical characteristics of the raw materials were examined. Two sets of mixes were prepared. For the first set, sand and water quantities were fixed while incinerator ash was used at 0% to 100% replacement by weight for cement in steps of 10%. In the second set, incinerator ash was used at 0% to 100% replacement by weight for sand while cement and water q...

This part also includes a review of recent work on the stereochemistry and the synthetic work of other workers on the alkaloid. The main section describes three approaches to the synthesis of the C-Nor-D-homo ring system of the veratrura alkaloids. Howell and Taylor’s acétate diester 6(3-acetoxy-1 p:2adi (methoxy carbonyl methyl)-9P~me...

STATISTICAL MODELING OF THE GHANAIAN WEATHER USING MARKOV CHAINS: A Case Study of Accra, Kumasi and Tamale, 2003-2007

ABSTRACT In this dissertation, Markov chain was used to model the rainfall pattern and sunshine duration for three regional capitals in Ghana (Tamale, Kumasi and Accra). Data on mean monthly averages and daily figures of measured parameters (sunshine duration and rainfall) for five years were used. To achieve these goals, a statistical basis was presented before adopting the three main approaches for modeling. Transition Matrix shows the short-run behavior of Markov chain; the steady-state pr...

The Human Immune Response to Plasmodium falciparum Includes Both Antibodies That Inhibit Merozoite Surface Protein 1 Secondary Processing and Blocking Antibodies

Malaria merozoite surface protein 1 (MSP1) is cleaved in an essential step during erythrocyte invasion. The responses of children to natural malaria infection included antibodies that inhibit this cleavage and others that block the binding of these inhibitory antibodies. There was no correlation between the titer of the antibody to the 19-kDa fragment of MSP1 and its inhibitory activity. These findings have implications for the design of MSP1-based vaccines.
